Karen grew up in Michigan. She, her husband and children lived many years in Milwaukee Wisconsin, before relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina where they lived for 37 years. In 2021 she and her husband moved to a new home in Wake Forest, NC.
In her early twenties Karen bought her first camera. It wasn’t until later—some 20 years later—that she began taking photo classes at Central Piedmont Community College and became more serious about photography.
Currently, much of her time is spent shooting sports, primarily lacrosse and soccer. She worked for six years for Queens University of Charlotte covering their sports. She now works on a free lance basis.
Her non-sports subjects include nature, primarily flowers. Spending time in the summer in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on Lake Superior provides a wide range of scenic subject matter. Karen always enjoyed making her own black and white prints—before the digital age! More recently she has been creating digital art. Each piece begins with one of her flower photographs.
When not doing photo-related activities, she enjoys biking, working out at the local Y, volunteering and especially being a grandmother!
